Meta Advantage+ creative: Meta's AI edits your ads, and the ad is still yours

Meta Advantage+ creative edits ads by default, and Meta's new ad terms are delayed. What is confirmed, what is reported, and how to audit your ads now.

By overads Inc., the team building gloofy

Meta Advantage+ creative uses AI to change your ads, adjusting images, generating variations and adding elements, and some of those enhancements are switched on by default. Meta planned to update its ad terms on 30 October, moved that to 20 November, and on 28 October said it may delay further while it consults; its existing terms stay in place until then. Adweek reports that the proposed wording makes advertisers solely responsible for edits made by AI features, including ones Meta turns on itself. Whatever the final text says, the practical position is the same: if Meta's AI changes your ad, the ad is still yours. Audit what is switched on now.

What is changing in Meta's ad terms, and how sure we are

Correction, 30 October: this post first gave 30 October as the date the terms would change. Meta has since delayed them, as the table now shows. Meta's terms pages carry update notices but the current text does not show the new wording, so it helps to separate what is confirmed from what is reported.

The delay is mainly about a different clause: publishers and advertisers objected to rights over their content for Meta's AI, and complaints reached EU and UK antitrust authorities, according to Reuters. It does not change where you stand today. Responsibility for ad content already sits with the advertiser, and the reported change would extend it explicitly to changes made by AI.

What Advantage+ creative can change in your ads

According to PPC Land, Advantage+ creative enhancements have been on by default since October 2025. They can adjust backgrounds, brightness, contrast and format, and generate up to 150 variations of an ad. The same report cites an agency saying Meta has also added sitelinks, translated copy and generated AI images or carousels, sometimes without the advertiser enabling them. Meta's position, through a spokesperson, is that advertisers can turn off individual Advantage+ features in Ads Manager at any time.

The scale is large. On Meta's third-quarter earnings call on 21 October, chief financial officer Susan Li said nearly 10 million advertisers used at least one generative AI creative tool in the quarter, and that adoption of video generation features grew 25% on the previous quarter. She also said advertisers who followed the recommendations of Meta's business AI assistant drove almost 5% more conversions at the same cost per conversion than similar advertisers who did not. Those are Meta's own figures.

So a lot of ads are being changed by AI, at a growing rate, and the reported terms say who answers for the result.

Who checks the work when Meta's AI edits the ad

We asked this question after Meta's Advertising Week announcements, in our post on what Meta's AI ad tools actually ship: when the platform writes the ad, picks the audience and reports the result, who checks it? Meta's current terms already give the answer, and the proposed ones would spell it out. You do.

That is not unreasonable. Meta cannot know whether a generated background implies a product feature you do not have, or whether a translated line makes a claim your legal team would block. But it does mean that automatic enhancements now carry the same review burden as anything your own team makes, at a volume no team reviews by hand. Whether an edited ad then needs a label is a separate question, covered in our guide to AI ad disclosure rules.

How to audit Meta Advantage+ creative

  1. List what is on. In each active campaign, open the Advantage+ creative settings and record every enhancement that is enabled, including ones inside collapsed menus.
  2. Decide per enhancement. Keep the ones whose output you can check easily, such as brightness. Turn off the ones that can change meaning, such as generated images, added text or translations, unless you have a way to review them.
  3. Check product browsing. It was reported to switch on for existing ads from 28 October. If you do not want it, check each ad and turn it off.
  4. Review what has already run. Pull the variants Meta served in the last 30 days and check claims, prices and regulated wording first.
  5. Check the frame. Generated or reformatted images can push your product or text into the part of a 9:16 frame the interface covers. Our guide to the Instagram Reels safe zone gives the exact margins.
  6. Label every variant. Tag each served variant the same way, by hook, angle, offer and persona, so you can see what the AI changed and whether it helped.
  7. Read the final text. When Meta publishes the updated terms, read the AI section yourself rather than relying on summaries, including this one.

Where gloofy fits, and where it does not

The labelling in step 6 is what gloofy's creative tagging does: the same hook, angle, persona, offer and funnel-stage labels on every ad, run on your own machine so the creative does not leave it. It is described under what gloofy does, and measured on exam v3.3 of our public marketing benchmark, where the released 14B adapter scores 0.816, tied within measurement error with Mistral Large 3.

It does not connect to Meta, read your Ads Manager settings, judge whether a claim is legally safe or check images. Our image composition adapter is not released and our hosted API is not live, so the frame check in step 5 is a manual one for now. It is not legal advice, and neither is this post. What to do this week

  • Open the Advantage+ creative settings in every live campaign and write down what is enabled.
  • Turn off enhancements that can change meaning unless someone reviews their output.
  • Check whether product browsing is now on for existing ads, and turn it off if you do not want it.
  • Ask whoever signs off your ads to read Meta's AI terms section when it is published.

FAQ

What is Meta Advantage+ creative?

Advantage+ creative is a set of AI features in Meta's Ads Manager that change your ads automatically, such as adjusting brightness, contrast, backgrounds and format, and generating variations. According to PPC Land, some enhancements have been on by default since October 2025. Advertisers can turn individual features off in Ads Manager.

When do Meta's new ad terms take effect?

No firm date. Meta moved the update from 30 October to 20 November 2026, then said consultation could delay it further, and that existing terms remain until then. According to Adweek, as relayed by PPC Land, the proposed terms make advertisers solely responsible for changes made by AI features.

Am I responsible for ads Meta's AI changed?

Meta's current Self-serve Ad Terms already make advertisers solely responsible for ad content, and the proposed update would extend that explicitly to AI edits. In practice, treat any Advantage+ change as your own creative: review it, or turn the feature off. For legal questions about your specific ads, ask a lawyer.

How do I turn off Advantage+ creative enhancements?

Meta says advertisers can turn off individual Advantage+ creative features in Ads Manager at any time, in the creative settings of each ad. Some reports say options sit in collapsed menus and stay on unless each is unchecked, so expand every section and check each enhancement, campaign by campaign.
