Meta AI ad tools after Advertising Week: what is live, what is a test, and who checks the work
Meta AI ad tools announced at Advertising Week New York, sorted into live, rolling out and testing, and why creative the platform writes needs an outside check.
By overads Inc., the team building gloofy
Meta used Advertising Week New York on 6 October to ship its broadest set of Meta AI ad tools yet: an assistant that can plan and change campaigns in conversation, video generated from still images, a creative studio that reads your past performance, and checkout inside a chat. Most write-ups treat the list as one launch. It is not. Some of it is live for every advertiser today, some is rolling out, and the most consequential parts are still tests. This post sorts them, then asks the question the announcement does not: when the platform writes the ad, picks the audience, moves the budget and reports the result, who checks the work?
What Meta announced, sorted by status
Meta's own post separates what is available from what is being tested, and so should anyone planning a quarter around it. Here is the list as Meta and two independent trackers describe it.
| Capability | Status as announced |
|---|---|
| Video generated from static assets, in Advantage+ creative | Generally available |
| Customer Lifecycle Strategy (exclude existing customers with one audience label) | Available to all advertisers |
| Ads Creative Studio with creative performance insights | Rolling out gradually after summer tests |
| Business AI assistant that plans campaigns, generates creative and changes budgets | Beginning to test |
| Scheduled tasks and alerts, such as recurring performance reports | Testing |
| Importing brand guidelines and strategy documents into the assistant | Testing |
| Video generated from catalog listings | Beta, eligible advertisers |
| AI audience discovery in Detailed Targeting | Promised by the end of the year |
| Checkout inside Meta Business Agent on Messenger, with Shopify | Testing |
| Checkout inside Meta AI, with Adyen, PayPal, Shopify and Stripe | Tests starting this fall |
The pattern is clear. The parts that generate more creative are shipping. The parts that let an agent spend money on your behalf, by changing budgets or completing a purchase, are tests. That is a sensible order for Meta, and a useful one for advertisers: there is time to decide how much of the loop you want to hand over before the loop is offered in full.
The assistant now remembers your account
The quieter change is memory. Meta says the business assistant now draws on campaign history, past performance, seasonality and goals you have stated before, and it is testing the ability to load brand guidelines and strategy documents directly. Meta also expanded its Ads MCP server, so outside AI tools can stage work that lands as a draft in Ads Manager, where a person or an agent can finish and publish it. Relevant Audience lists ten integration partners for it, including Perplexity, Snowflake, Databricks and Triple Whale.
Put together, this is agentic advertising in the plain sense: software that holds context about your business and takes actions in the ad account, not just a text box that drafts headlines. It is also a bet that the context lives inside Meta. Your brand rules, your performance history and the reasoning behind your campaigns become inputs to a model you cannot inspect, version or take with you.
Agents that buy, and the protocol for them
On the same day, Meta and Sierra introduced the Personal Agent Protocol, an open standard for how a consumer's AI agent authenticates with a business and acts for that person. Sierra names Genesys, Instinct, Rocket, Shopify, Stripe and Walmart as partners, and frames it around consumers deciding what access their agents get while companies set what those agents may do.
For marketers, the implication is that some of the "customers" reading an ad, a product page or a chat flow will be agents. Agents do not respond to a hook the way a person scrolling a feed does. Copy that works on people and copy that survives an agent's evaluation are not guaranteed to be the same thing, and nobody has published a way to measure the second yet. We do not have one either, and we are saying so rather than implying a product that does not exist.
Who checks the work when the platform writes the ad
Here is the structural problem. When one company generates the creative, chooses who sees it, sets the bid and reports what happened, every number you see about that creative comes from the party selling you the impressions. That does not mean the numbers are wrong. It means there is no second opinion in the loop unless you add one. Meta's proposed new ad terms, now delayed, would make this sharper; we cover what to check in our guide to auditing Meta Advantage+ creative.
An independent check does not need to be a bigger model. It needs to be consistent, cheap enough to run on every variant, and owned by you. Three checks matter most once Meta AI ad tools are producing creative at volume:
- Know what was generated. If Ads Creative Studio produces forty variants, you want each one tagged the same way: hook, angle, persona, offer and funnel stage. Counting tags across winners and losers is how you learn something reusable instead of trusting a black box's choice; the same method applies to Performance Max asset testing on Google. Tagging ad creative is the first job gloofy was built for, as described in what gloofy does.
- Check the frame. Video generated from a static image is cropped and animated by the platform. Whether the product stays inside the part of a 9:16 frame that interface chrome does not cover (the Instagram Reels safe zone margins, in pixels) is measurable. We built a safe-band scoring API that returns that score with every image it generates, but it is not live yet, so for now check finished assets against Meta's own safe zone templates.
- Keep the facts in the prompt. Character limits, safe zones and currency rules are facts. Our build log records that training a model on facts like these made it worse at following instructions, while stating them in the prompt worked; we wrote up when to fine-tune an LLM and when to prompt it with the numbers. When you brief any assistant, Meta's included, write the rules down instead of hoping it learned them.
Where an open model fits, and where it does not
We should be precise about our own claim. gloofy is a small model you can run on a laptop, released under an open licence. On our public exam of 150 real published ads, our released 14B adapter is tied with the 675B Mistral Large 3 within measurement error. The closed frontier models from Anthropic, OpenAI and Google have not been measured on the current version of the exam, and on the earlier version Claude and Gemini scored higher. The benchmark prints all of it, corrections included. gloofy will not out-think the model behind Meta's assistant.
What it does differently is run on your machine, at no marginal cost, with your creative never leaving it. That is the property an audit layer needs. A tagger you would run on four hundred AI-generated variants every week has to be cheap, consistent and yours, and those are things a frontier API rented per call, or a platform grading its own output, cannot offer. The models section lists exactly what is released and under which licence.
If you are tracking how the platforms move, the AI ad platforms hub collects this coverage, and spec changes such as new safe zones go in platform specs and compliance.
What to do this quarter
- Turn on what is generally available, but tag every generated variant so you can compare it with your own creative on equal terms.
- Before you test the agentic assistant on a live budget, write down the rules it must follow and check its first changes by hand.
- Keep brand guidelines in a document you control, and treat any upload to a platform assistant as a copy, not the source.
- Watch the checkout tests. If agents start completing purchases, the brief for your landing pages changes, and nobody has a measured playbook for that yet.
FAQ
Which Meta AI ad tools are available now?
As announced on 6 October 2026, video generated from static assets in Advantage+ creative is generally available, and Customer Lifecycle Strategy is available to all advertisers. Ads Creative Studio is rolling out gradually. The agentic assistant, scheduled tasks and in-chat checkout are tests.
Can Meta's assistant change my budget on its own?
Meta says the assistant can plan campaigns, generate creative and make budget changes through conversation, and that this capability is beginning to test. It is not generally available, and Meta has not published how approval works for every action.
Can an open model check AI-generated ad creative?
Yes, for consistent structured checks such as tagging hook, angle, persona, offer and funnel stage on every variant. A small local model is less accurate than frontier models on open reasoning, but it runs at no marginal cost on your own machine, which is what makes checking every variant practical.
